Russia suspends participation in the "grain agreement"


On Saturday, October 29, 2022, the Russian side announced the "suspension" of the obligations assumed within the framework of the agreement on the safe export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea

The reason for such a decision was called a "terrorist act", allegedly organized by Ukraine.

On July 22, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations signed an agreement in Istanbul, aimed at unblocking Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea and exporting Ukrainian grain from there to consumers in Asia, Africa and South America. At the same time, Russia also concluded a mirror agreement with Turkey andthe UN.

The corresponding document was signed by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov, the Minister of Defense of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, and the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres. Defense Minister Serhiy Shoigu signed the agreement on behalf of the Russian Federation.

These agreements were called "grain agreement" or "grain corridor".

The representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, stated that as of October 28, the grain agreement had saved 100 million people from extreme poverty.
On November 2, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that Russia is resuming its participation in the "grain agreement", which was temporarily suspended on October 29, after the attack on the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol.
